Race Report: 2011 Al Goldstien 5k Summer Speed Series Race #2
A quick update for a quick race… last night I did the PPTC Al Goldstein 5k in Prospect Park. As I mentioned before, the Al Goldstein series are run every other Wednesday throughout the summer. They’re fun, very low-key and only cost $5.00!
I haven’t race raced a 5k in a while so I didn’t know what to expect. I decided pre-race to be happy with sub 00:20:00. I ran 00:19:02 which put me 2nd in my age group.
Prizes included a choice between a headband/ear warmer or a pair of arm warmers that had “Cherry Tree 10 Miler” printed on them. Obviously surplus gear from the winter race that the PPTC puts on.
I was a little bummed at this since last time I did one of these races I finished in the same age group place and received a medal which my daughter was thrilled to get from me. I opted for the headband, but haven’t figured out how to add it to the trophy wall at home.
Though the PPTC seemed irritated that they broke 100 registrants this week — “tell your friends, but tell them not to tell their friends. We’re getting too big” — please consider running one of the five remaining races this summer. It’s great to have a nice series of local 5ks in Prospect Park. And who knows… if they reach a critical mass maybe they’ll splurge $2.00 to buy age grouper medals.
