Race Report: 2012 Paine to Pain Half Marathon
I did the Paine to Pain Trail Half Marathon today. Fantastic race! Well organized with a fun vibe and great swag.
This was really a “B+” race for me as I have my sites firmly set on the Brooklyn Marathon in five weeks. Didn’t taper for it, just did a light week. I didn’t really train for it either, just did some hard Lookout Hill stair repeats every week for the last six. Considering all that, I was pretty happy with the results.
01:34:18 @ 7:09 – 27th overall. 4th in the 40 to 49 age group.
The only disappointment was that I missed out on 3rd in my age by 11 seconds. I was with the guy who finished 3rd for sometime, but because I was B-racing it I let him drift ahead. I chased down four or five runners over the last three miles, but just couldn’t reel him back. Oh well.
Special props to Gary Berard for coming along. He was going to race as well, but didn’t start due to an injury. His shouting strategic mile-12 course info was well needed. Also, props to friend Stephen England for is 11th overall and 3rd in the 30-39 age group. This after running a 02:46:00 last weekend in Chicago. Outstanding.
